Roundhouse Council Big Time event celebrates rebuilding

Organizers report that a Roundhouse Council Big Time event and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in partnership with Sierra Institute for Community and Environment on June 20 at 1 p.m. The event will be held at 330 Bush St. in Greenville. The community is invited to gather for a special ceremony to celebrate the rebuilding and opening of the Roundhouse Council Education Center post Dixie Fire. Organizers note that this is a 100% drug- and alcohol-free event.

“We are very excited to gather on this summer solstice, uniting to honor our community,” say organizers. “This is a pivotal milestone in our collective post-Dixie Fire recovery efforts. Come and be a part of this significant celebration.”

The event schedule is as follows:

  • The opening ceremony will begin at 1. Speakers will include Mary Joseph, executive director of Roundhouse Council; Jonathan Kusel, executive director of the Sierra Institute; Jennifer Eberlein, Forest Service Region 5 forester; Martha Guzman Aceves, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 administrator; Kevin Goss, Plumas County District 2 supervisor; and Susan Jones, architect from Atelierjones; and others.
  • At 1:45, attendees will have the opportunity to view the sun aligning with the Roundhouse Council Education Center’s oculus at 1:50. This alignment happens on the summer solstice. The building will be open to the public for walkthroughs and viewing for the remainder of the day.
  • At 2, a performance by California feather dancers will begin. Shade and chairs will be provided for the audience. Organizers ask that the audience refrain from taking photos or videos of the dancers.

In addition to performances by five California feather dancers, the event will also feature a variety of craft vendors, fry bread tacos and other food, and lemonade.
