June 12: Wednesday Play Day
On Wednesday, June 12, a day described by the Play Day captain as wonderful, 21 Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed as two-man teams in a game in which both players’ net scores counted on each hole, except that each player was allowed to throw out one high score for the 18-hole round. As usual, they also competed for skins.
In first place was the team of Jim Reynolds and John Mitchell with a combined net score of 129. In second place was the team of Dan Friedman and Norm Nichols with a combined net score of 130. Third place was a tie between the teams of Dan Anderson/Mike Quesenberry and Dennis Flynn/Ron Eaton, each with a combined net score of 133.
Nine skins were won by the following players: Lawrence Randle with a net 3 on the first hole; John Mitchell with a net 2 on the second hole; Dennis Flynn with a net 1 on the third hole; Ron Eaton with a net 2 on the 10th hole; Mike Quesenberry with a net 3 on the 11th hole, a net 2 on the 13th hole and a net 4 on the 18th hole; Dan Anderson with a net 2 on the 15th hole; and Jeff McKenzie with a net 2 on the 17th hole.
June 13: Captain’s Cup final
Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club members played their annual two-round Captain’s Cup tournament June 6 and 13. This is a match play tournament, using net scores. Each player receives one point for each hole won, one-half point for each hole tied, and zero points for each hole lost. Organizers offer congratulations to 2024 Captain’s Cup champion Patty Monaghan, who scored 22.5 points, and to runner-up Mikie Burdick, who scored 22 points. Alaine Flynn, Nancy Linch and Susan Wiese tied for third place, each with 21.5 points.
Chris Laxague had two chip-ins, and Alaine Flynn and Nancy Linch had one each. The final round was followed by an awards luncheon at the Graeagle Meadows Golf Course Clubhouse.
June 14: Friday Play Day
On Friday, June 14, the weather was clear and warm with, at times, a lot of wind. Twenty-one Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed as two-man teams in a game in which players took the better ball on the odd-numbered holes, and the worst ball on the even-numbered holes, plus skins. First place was won by Chuck Hein and Grant Mayfield with a net score of 69. Second place was a tie among the teams of Ray Neill/Bob Laxaque, Gene Carr/Dennis Flynn and John Mitchell/Lawrence Randle, each with a net score of 72.
There were eight skins awarded to the following: Chuck Hein with a 2 on the first hole, Mike Simpson with a 1 on the third hole, Jim Oster with a 2 on the sixth hole, Nate Coats with a 3 on the seventh hole, Mark Yuill with a 2 on the ninth hole, Steve Harding with a 2 on the 10th hole, Norm Miller with a 1 on the 12th hole, and Dave Macdonald with a 4 on the 18th hole.
