Members report that the Philanthropic Educational Association Chapter WH/Lake Almanor is an active chapter that provides support to local women and their education in the local area with the Patricia (Pat) J. Dennison Scholarship. To date about $52,000 has been awarded to 50 students in memory of Dennison. Applications for this scholarship are now available to women who are high school graduates from Plumas, Lassen or Butte counties. Further information and application criteria are available from Jenni Cesarin at [email protected] or 530-249-5346.
Funds for this scholarship come from donations and local fundraisers. The P.E.O. chapter has several events planned. Members staff a sweets booth every year at the July 4 craft sale in Chester, where their pies are the main attraction. Another planned fundraiser will be an Aug. 14 dinner at the Lake Almanor Country Club with a silent auction followed by a live dessert auction. Tickets will cost $40 per person and can be purchased at the Fourth of July booth or from any member of Chapter WH. The chapter’s final fundraiser of the year will be a booth at the Lake Almanor Community Church in October, where members will showcase their crafting skills.
