Plumas residents can still vote from out of town

The presidential election in November is approaching, and Plumas County Elections Division personnel report they want to help the community be prepared to vote, even if residents are out of town or on vacation during the election.

One common inquiry the elections office receives is “How can I obtain my ballot if I am out of town?” California offers procedures to assist all eligible voters in the state, and Plumas County is no different. By completing and submitting a seasonal address request form to the elections office in the Quincy Courthouse, a voter can add a seasonal address to the system.

To ensure timely processing, elections personnel point out that it is crucial to be aware of the deadlines for submitting a seasonal address request form. Since election mail cannot be forwarded, ballots are sent to the mailing address listed in a voter’s file. Not updating the seasonal address may lead to a ballot being returned to the Plumas County office, requiring additional steps to send it to the correct address and delaying the delivery process.

The deadline for requesting a seasonal address is Aug. 29. Those who miss this deadline are instructed to contact the elections office immediately, and personnel will make every effort to help voters’ ballots reach them on time.

“Your vote is your voice, shaping the future at the local, state and national levels,” said Samantha Brassfield, elections services assistant. “Whether you vote in person, by mail or from a distance, each vote matters. Thank you for being an engaged citizen.” Questions may be directed to 530-283-6256 or [email protected]. In-person visits are welcome at 520 Main St., Room 102, in Quincy. “We are happy to assist you and wish you a pleasant voting experience,” said Brassfield.
