Gold Digger Days glitter in Greenville

For 62 years, the third weekend in July has meant one thing to Greenville residents: Gold Digger Days. On Saturday, July 20, the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce reports that the town came together once again to celebrate this cherished tradition, enjoying a day filled with festivities, entertainment and a celebration of Greenville’s rich history and community spirit. IVCC says this event highlights the strong bonds that make Greenville a special place to live and visit.

The day kicked off with a lively parade that “showcased the heart and soul of Greenville,” said Rachel Goings, public relations manager for IVCC. The procession was led by the American Legion, followed by an array of fire trucks, logging trucks, the Indian Valley Riding and Roping Club and other local participants. Despite rising temperatures, Goings said, the parade route was lined with cheering spectators, all eager to join in the celebration.

Throughout the day, attendees participated in a variety of activities and attractions. Following the parade, the kids’ corner was a hub of excitement, said Goings, featuring a water play area for youngsters to beat the heat.

In addition to family-friendly fun, Gold Diggers Day offered a prize giveaway for all ages, along with food vendors and a street dance at The Spot. Goings said the evening was highlighted by a stellar performance from The Jeff Pershing Band, whose music got everyone on their feet to dance the night away under the stars.

Looking ahead to next year, Goings said IVCC is eager to bring back the beloved softball tournament that has traditionally been a part of Gold Diggers weekend. IVCC is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this happen. Those interested in volunteering can contact IVCC at [email protected] or join the next board meeting Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at The Spot.

“Together, we can ensure that Gold Diggers Day continues to grow and provide joy for all,” said IVCC president Kira Wattenburg King. On behalf of IVCC, King extended thanks to Christi Hazleton, owner of Region Burger, for her “exceptional planning and dedication” to this year’s event and also to IVCC board member Mickey McKinnon of the Dixie Fire Canopy Project for organizing the giveaway prize donations.
