During World Breastfeeding Week Aug. 1 through 7, First 5 Plumas announces it will begin hosting a monthly breastfeeding group in Quincy. The first meeting is set for Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. at Gansner Park and the group will continue to meet on the second Wednesday of each month.
Organizers say the goal of the group is to discuss breastfeeding and parenting issues, meet other parents, understand resources available and allow babies to interact with each other. This is a group for all parents, including fathers and prenatal parents.
First 5 Plumas says that breastfeeding in Plumas County is supported by Family First Home Visiting Program, through which any parent can get lactation support, for free, by calling 530-283-6330 or visiting https://www.plumascounty.us/2238/Family-First-Home-Visiting-Program.
In addition, families who income qualify for the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program can receive breastfeeding support and access healthy foods, nutrition education and tips, health care referrals and community information. More information about WIC is available by calling 530-283-4093.
World Breastfeeding Week has the dual goal of improving the health of babies and promoting, protecting and supporting the rights of women to breastfeed anywhere and at any time.
