Disaster preparedness presentation open to all

“Are you and your family prepared for a disaster?” ask the Valley Ranch and Graeagle Fire Protection District Firewise communities. On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the two groups will be co-hosting a presentation on disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation. The presentation will be held at the Graeagle Fire Hall, 7620 Highway 89 in Graeagle, at 5:30 p.m. It is open to everyone.

The guest speakers will be Lori Pini, of the Plumas County Office of Emergency Services, and Marty Walters, of Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters.

Plumas County OES is the emergency management agency for Plumas County and coordinates planning for, responding to and recovering from natural and human-caused disasters. National VOAD promotes cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration, and fosters more effective delivery of services to communities affected by disaster.

Organizers report that these guest speakers will share information on emergency alerts and resources, wildfire evacuation maps, general disaster preparedness, planning for animals, insurance considerations and more.

“The recent Gold Complex Fires and the current Park Fire are reminders of how quickly a wildfire can happen and the ever-present need to be prepared,” say organizers. “Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how you can best be prepared.”
