Feather River Land Trust reports that a summer match fundraising program means donations to the nonprofit will be doubled through Sept. 30.
“The beautiful lands and waters of the Feather River region — the Sierra Nevada’s largest watershed — sustain a remarkable diversity of life,” said Corey Pargee, FRLT executive director. “This summer’s record heat and wildfires underscore that conserving this region’s meadows, wetlands and wildlife habitats is critical in our changing climate.”
Pargee said it takes a community of people who care — people who value clean water, healthy habitats for birds and wildlife, public access to recreation and outdoor education “and, of course, breathtaking beauty” — to make this conservation possible. “We are all connected to nature, and it is up to us to care for these special places together.”
Those who make a gift by Sept. 30 will have their donations matched dollar for dollar, up to the first $100,000, by a team of FRLT supporters. FRLT hopes to raise $250,000 during its summer match campaign.
The land trust has conserved over 100,000 acres of Feather River lands so far. Organizers say donations will help with the following projects:
- Conserve more vital meadows, wetlands and wildlife corridors at the Feather River headwaters.
- Connect over 2,500 schoolkids to nature through the Learning Landscapes program.
- Enhance public preserves, with better accessibility at Olsen Barn Meadow and new signage at the Mountain Meadows Gateway Preserve.
