Aug. 7: Wednesday Play Day
On Aug. 7, a warm and clear day, organizers report that 23 Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed in a blind draw for partners format in which both net scores were combined to determine the winners, plus skins.
First place was won by the team of Grant Mayfield and Jim Reynolds with a net score of 144. Second place was won by the team of Norm Nichols and Nate Coats with a net score of 145. Third place was won by the team of Jack Gilbert and Lawrence Randle with a net score of 147.
There were three skins awarded: two to Jeff McKenzie with a net score of 3 on the 11th hole and a net 2 on the 15th hole and one to Tom Fregulia with a net score of 1 on the 14th hole.
Aug. 9: Friday Play Day
On Friday, Aug. 9, 23 GMGA players competed in a two-man format in which both net scores were combined to determine the winners. In addition, there was a closest-to-the-pin contest on the third hole, plus skins.
First place was won by the team of Dan Anderson and Jim Reynolds with a combined score of 136. Organizers point out that Anderson shot his age — 78 — and offer congratulations. Second place was a tie between the teams of Gene Carr/Mike Irving and Nate Coats/Jim Oster, both with combined net scores of 139.
The closest-to-the-pin contest paid two places. First place was won by Dan Friedman at 5 feet, 1 inch, and second place was won by Pat Meuth at 10 feet, 6 inches.
There were eight skins awarded: three to Gene Carr with a net 2 on the fourth hole, a net 2 on the 15th hole and a net 2 on the 17th hole; two to Jim Oster with a net 2 on the first hole and a net 2 on the ninth hole; and one each to Dan Friedman with a net 1 on the third hole, Lance Raglen with a net 1 on the 16th hole and Grant Mayfield with a net 3 on the 18th hole.
