Lassen National Forest shrinks Park Fire closure

Lassen National Forest reports that the boundary of its Park Fire closure area has been reduced per Forest Order No. 06-24-07. The new order, signed Aug. 16 by Forest Supervisor Tara Jones, supersedes Forest Order No. 06-24-06, signed July 28.

The new closure area is pictured in Exhibit B of the closure order. The boundary begins at the intersection of highways 99 and 32 in the city of Chico, continues northeast along Highway 32 to the intersection with Highway 36, continues northwest to west along Highway 36 to the intersection with Highway 99 in the city of Red Bluff, then continues south along Highway 99 back to the starting point with Highway 32.

The closure prohibits being on national forest system lands, roads or trails within the closure area, with the following exceptions:

  • Those with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 specifically exempting them from this order.
  • Any federal, state or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force, in the performance of an official duty.
  • Owners or lessees of land in the Park Fire closure area, to the extent necessary to access their land.
  • Those registered to stay at Alder Creek, Battle Creek or Elam campgrounds for not more than 14 days in a calendar year.

Violation of closure prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
