Aug. 14: Wednesday Play Day
On Wednesday, Aug. 14, 22 Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed in a Best Ball-Worst Ball format. In this format the best net ball of the two-man team on each hole on the front nine is added to the worst hole by hole net score on the back nine to arrive at the team score, plus skins.
First place was a tie between the team of Dan Anderson/Dan Friedman, and the team of Anthony Gonzales/Anthony Maranda, both with net scores of 71. Third place was also a tie between the team of John Grasso/Jay Hendrick and the team of Jim Reynolds/Paul Senft, both with net scores of 73.
There were six skins awarded: two to Andy Knudson with a net 2 on the 13th hole and a net 2 on the 17th hole, and one each to Clint Dudley with a net 2 on the first hole, Tom Fregulia with a net 2 on the second hole, Jim Oster with a net 2 on the ninth hole, and Lance Raglen with a net 2 on the 10th hole.
Aug. 15: Partners’ Eclectic Tournament, second round
The annual Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club Partners’ Eclectic Tournament was played Thursday, Aug. 8, and Thursday, Aug. 15. In this game the two-person team counts the net first round better scores, hole by hole, and compares them with their better ball scores in the second round, with the lower score on each hole counting as the team’s game score.
Twenty players competed in the tournament in one flight. First place went to the team of Darlene Gibaut/Dee Walker in a card-off with the team of Ginger Holladay-Houston/Carol Mitchell. Both teams had game net scores of 19 under par. The team of Cynthia Baldwin and Mikie Burdick took third place with a team game score of 17 under par.
Cynthia Baldwin and Michele Violet each had one chip-in.
Aug. 16, 18: Guys and Gals
On Friday, Aug. 16, and Sunday, Aug. 18, the Graeagle Men’s Golf Association held its annual couple’s club championship called the Guys and Gals. The format for this event is two-person male and female teams, divided into two flights. The game is the best net score per hole on the first day, and both net balls combined scored on the second day.
The overall gross winners, and the couple’s champion golfers of the year, were Jim Reynolds and Debbie Fuetsch with a gross score of 68 + 165 = 233. Reynolds and Fuetsch were also overall net winners; however, only one place can be awarded per team. The first flight net winners were Dan and Holly Anderson with a combined net score of 203. In second place was the team of Lance Raglen and Nancy Linch, with a combined net score of 210.
In the second flight the winners were the team of Grant Mayfield and Cathy Churchill with a net score of 208. Second place winners were the team of Jim Oster and Cheryl Brennan with a net score of 210.
Organizers report that the event was followed by a barbecue at the Graeagle Picnic Grounds.
