Service academy nomination requests due Nov. 1

Rep. Kevin Kiley, who serves the 3rd Congressional District, announces that military service academy nomination packets are due to his office Nov. 1. Members of Congress may nominate academy applicants who meet the eligibility requirements established by law. The nomination application period opens May 15 each year for those candidates who are high school juniors and will be seniors the following school year, or who have already graduated.

“Our area is filled with high-achieving students,” said Kiley, “and last year I was honored to nominate over 30 talented young men and women.” Applicants may aim to attend the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy or U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Those interested in applying for congressional nomination and serving at one of the nation’s service academies can download the service academy checklist and complete the service academy nomination application. Nominations are based on a “whole person” evaluation. Factors such as academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character and motivation are taken into consideration and compared with those of other applicants.

“As a member of Congress, it is my distinct honor and privilege to nominate candidates for appointment to four of the U.S. service academies,” said Kiley. “The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. service academies and serving our country.”

Completed packets must be delivered to Kiley’s district office at 6538 Lonetree Blvd., Suite 200, Rocklin, CA 95765 by Nov. 1. Those with questions about the process can call his office at 916-724-2575.
