Aug. 21: Wednesday Play Day
The Graeagle Men’s Golf Association reports that Wednesday, Aug. 21, 21 players competed in an In the Box format, plus skins. This two-man team format is where the best ball of the twosome is counted on the par 4 holes, both balls are counted on the par 3s, and each player is assigned a par 5 on the front nine and a par 5 on the back nine, therefore leading to the designation In the Box.
First place was won by Dennis Flynn and Norm Nichols with a net score of 70. Second place was won by Jim Reynolds and Paul Senft with a net score of 77. Third place was won by Jeff McKenzie and Don Judson with a net score of 78.
There were six skins awarded to the following players: Norm Nichols with a net 1 on the first hole, Bob Laxaque with a net 1 on the fourth hole, Jeff McKenzie with a net 1 on the eighth hole and a net 3 on the 17th hole, Don Judson with a net 2 on the 10th hole and Grant Mayfield with a net 3 on the 13th hole.
Aug. 22: Ace of Aces qualifier
On Thursday, Aug. 22, 20 Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club players competed in the monthly Ace of Aces qualifier, in which the low gross and low net winners qualify to play in the annual Ace of Aces Playoff at the season’s end. Players also competed in a game of Awesome 3s, in which the game score consists of the player’s best three par 3s, best three par 4s and best three par 5s.
Organizers offer congratulations to August Ace of Aces qualifiers Holly Anderson (low gross: 100) and Nancy Linch (low net: 73).
Awesome 3s winners were as follows:
First flight low gross: Cynthia Baldwin (37)
First flight first low net: Renee Miller (29)
First flight second low net: Chris Laxague (37)
Second flight low gross: Nancy Linch (44)
Second flight first low net, in a card-off: Colleen Chase (30)
Second flight second low net: Cathy Churchill (30)
And there were chip-ins: one each for Holly Anderson (seventh hole), Nancy Linch (third hole) and Cynthia Baldwin (18th hole). “Notice that chipping in often results in a winning score!” said organizers.
Aug. 23: Friday Play Day
On Friday, Aug. 23, 21 Graeagle Men’s Golf Association players competed in a two-man format in which the best ball of the team on each hole counts toward the total team score, plus skins.
First place was won by the team of Dennis Flynn and Loren Galassi with a net score of 59. Second place was won by the team of Mike Simpson and Pat Meuth with a net score of 61. Third place was won by the team of Jeff McKenzie and Norm Nichols with a net score of 63.
There were four skins awarded: one each to Mike Simpson with a net 2 on the second hole, Norm Nichols with a net 1 on the 12th hole, Chuck Hein with a net 2 on the 13th hole and Dennis Flynn with a net 1 on the 16th hole.
