Plumas Community Hospice invites the entire community to join in an afternoon of music and learning under the pines at The Brewing Lair on Sunday, Sept. 15.
An informational session and fundraiser to support the local hospice group will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the local brewery off Highway 70 in Blairsden. Representatives from organizations including Plumas District Hospital, Eastern Plumas Health Care and Plumas Grief Recovery, along with attorney Jennifer McQuarrie, will offer information and resources.
Attendees can also enjoy a prize giveaway, locally brewed ales, wines from Lost Sierra Wine Co., tacos and fries from the Ricochet Cafe food truck, and music by local artists including Dr. Jeff Kepple, Kelsey Kepple, Chris Retallack and Noah Dane. A portion of all beverage, food and merchandise sales — and 100% of giveaway ticket sales — will go to support hospice programs.
For over 20 years, the nonprofit Plumas Community Hospice has provided no-cost assistance and guidance to patients and families throughout Plumas County who are experiencing advanced terminal illness. Trained hospice volunteers offer compassionate, respectful and knowledgeable support to give patients the best quality of life, and help relieve caregivers, as families navigate the end-of-life journey. Organizers point out that Plumas Community Hospice is a nonmedical hospice, which enables patients to stay with their existing care provider and allows for a more flexible schedule with more frequent visits, if needed.
“The end of life is an intense time for most families,” said hospice director Susan DeLano, who has been involved in hospice work for more than seven years. “We’re here to help guide them, and to identify issues they might not be aware of in the intensity of that moment. No one in our community should go through this alone.”
Of the Sept. 15 fundraiser and information session, she said, “This event will gather the hospice’s many partners together, providing a wonderful opportunity for Plumas County residents to learn about all the care options available in the region, and to show their support for this essential community service.”
September’s fundraiser will help to purchase educational materials for patients and families, and contribute to a training event for new volunteers in October. Those interested in volunteering or learning more about the organization’s services can visit the hospice website or call 530-394-7228.
