Firewise seeks Portola area committee members

The Plumas County Fire Safe Council announces it is seeking volunteer lead committee members for the Portola Firewise Community, which is currently inactive. “To keep the Firewise USA initiative thriving in Plumas County, we need a strong network of individuals committed to making an ongoing impact,” said Amber Hughes, Plumas County Firewise liaison. “We understand the power of collaboration and urge you to consider how you can make a significant impact on the Firewise USA program in Plumas County.”

Hughes is asking for community assistance in identifying key wildfire stakeholders who can help drive the success of the Portola Firewise Community by serving as committee members. Potential candidates could include the following:

  • Current Firewise lead committee members in areas near the city of Portola
  • Members and staff of local fire departments
  • School officials and staff
  • Church leaders and members
  • County officials and staff
  • County supervisors
  • Local business owners
  • Ranchers and farmers
  • Artists and musicians
  • Local homeowners
  • Fellow neighbors

Utilizing the varied skill sets of local residents, Portola Firewise, together with existing Firewise communities, can effectively collaborate and work towards a well-defined action plan, said Hughes.
