AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer orientation set for Quincy

The AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer program is seeking local seniors who want to “make friends while making a difference,” reports April Mae Tomczak, of the Chico nonprofit Passages.

The program pairs volunteers aged 55-plus with other seniors in need. Volunteers can provide rides to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, lunch dates, etc. Volunteers can also visit with lonely older adults in their home or by phone. Mileage reimbursement and gas cards are available for volunteers, as is an hourly stipend for those who income qualify.

A local orientation for new volunteers is set for Sept. 27 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Plumas Rural Services conference room at 711 E. Main St. in Quincy. RSVP is required to 530-898-6642. Everyone interested in learning about the AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer opportunities in Plumas County is welcome.

Volunteers can apply online or in person. More information and online applications are available at https://www.passagescenter.org/senior-corps/.
