Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers honor service members

The Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce reports that members of the Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers group are proud to celebrate local service members with the upcoming Veterans Day parade and the recent completion of a heartfelt project honoring those who have served. As proud mothers of Indian Valley men and women who are currently serving or have served in the U.S. armed forces, their mission is to support and advocate for servicemen, servicewomen, veterans and their families.

The annual Veterans Day parade, hosted by the organization, will take place Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in downtown Greenville. Organizers invite the community to join in celebrating the bravery and dedication of veterans. “This year’s parade promises to be the most memorable yet, with participation from local groups, businesses and organizations,” they say. Those interested in participating in the parade are welcome to complete the entry form found at http://www.indianvalleychamber.org.

In addition to the parade, the Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers have completed a year-long project dedicated to recognizing local heroes. They have purchased and hung banners featuring the faces of local service members — both active and veterans — that can be viewed along Crescent Street-Highway 89 in Greenville.

“We have been working on this project for nearly a year, and we were able to see our hard work come to life,” said Anna Lawson, president of Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers. “This is a gift not only to us and our service members but also to our community, which lost so much during the Dixie Fire.”

Lawson said the project would not have been possible without the incredible support of the community. The group extends appreciation to Doug Stoy Logging, Karisa Joseph, American Legion Post 568 and local linemen, who went “above and beyond” in helping the organization purchase the banners and get them on display. Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers said they are deeply grateful to Wild Hare Sign Co. for their beautiful banner designs.

“We always say it takes a village, and we are so very grateful to live in such a loving, supportive and generous community,” added Lawson. “Thank you to all of our donors, near and far. We couldn’t do this without you! This is just the beginning — we will continue to hang banners throughout our valley.”

Lawson said the banners are purchased with money the group receives as donations. Those wishing to donate or request a banner can call her at 530-616-9017. Current servicemembers honored with banners are as follows:

  • Clayton Hammerich
  • Ryan Hammerich
  • Austin Howard
  • Colton Lawson
  • Aaron Mecum
  • Tyler Mecum
  • Garrett Miille
  • Harlan Savala
  • Emmett Stoy

Through community events, advocacy and support programs, the Wolf Creek Blue Star Mothers strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those who serve and their families. Areas served by the group include Greenville, Taylorsville, Crescent Mills, Indian Falls, Genesee and Canyon Dam. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Greenville Plumas Bank branch at 121 Crescent St.
