Pile burning planned near Quincy

Public participation welcome; Oct. 15 community meeting open to all

Terra Fuego Resource Foundation reports it is planning to burn 170 acres of piles in Boyles Ravine on American Valley Community Services District property outside Quincy. The project is part of the American Valley Community Services District Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project, through the Plumas County Fire Safe Council and funded by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

The prescribed fire pile burn will also be supported by the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department and the Plumas Underburn Cooperative, reports Bill Jacks, Terra Fuego executive director. Those who would like to help with the burning of these piles can become members of the PUC with a one-time $50 lifetime membership purchase, said Jacks. PUC membership applications are available at https://www.plumasfiresafe.org/ or https://plumasunderburn.org/.

Terra Fuego will be holding a community meeting Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the West End Theatre in Quincy. There, the community can meet the prescribed fire management team, ask questions and voice concerns.

“We live in a fire-prone landscape where fire will eventually happen,” said Jacks. “And the longer the fire is excluded the greater its potential for destruction. Frequent prescribed fire provides the greatest resiliency for our most vulnerable areas.”
