Feather River College announces it wrapped up another successful College and Career Fair Sept. 17. Organizers say the event featured a range of local career representatives, along with college representatives from four-year institutions, private colleges and more. The fair is designed to introduce local high school students to a variety of options after graduation. In addition, FRC students can attend to learn about transfer options after FRC and viable careers within local industries.
This year, the annual College and Career Fair featured keynote speaker David James, an alumnus of FRC and partner in Greenhorn Ranch. James kicked off the event with a keynote address that spoke about finding inspiration and staying motivated. Following James’ speech, the high school audience heard from a panel of local industries, including representatives from Plumas Bank, the U.S. Forest Service, Sierra Pacific Industries and local public services.

“This event is helpful in connecting high school and college students to local industries that are seeking educated, local employees both right now and in the future,” said Nick Maffei, FRC’s director of marketing, communications and outreach. He reported that a local high school student said, “It’s nice having all of these local businesses together in one location so I can meet with them. I feel like it makes it easier to connect with them.”
The event wrapped up with a free lunch for high school students on the FRC campus. Maffei said the students returned to their respective high schools with handfuls of swag and giveaways, full bellies and lots of helpful information to inspire their decisions after high school.
“We love being able to bring local high school students onto the FRC campus and connect them with both career and educational opportunities at the same time,” said Maffei. “Not every small town has this opportunity to serve the local youth in this manner, and I think at the end of the day we all end up benefiting from it!”
