Owners of fire-destroyed homes eligible for PG&E program

After the Dixie Fire, and as required by the settlement of a criminal investigation brought by Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister and district attorneys from four other impacted counties, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. set up a program where local residents whose homes were destroyed could apply for compensation quickly, without having to go through an attorney. PG&E called it the Direct Payments for Community Recovery Program. PG&E has paid nearly $50 million in Dixie Fire DP4CR claims to local residents since the program’s launch in May 2022, Hollister said.

The Plumas County District Attorney’s Office wants to let fire-affected homeowners know that the last day for eligible community members to submit claims is Oct. 26.

The DP4CR Program, along with other parts of the settlement, was critical to getting money into the community quickly. PG&E generally processed claims within 75 days from the time the claim was complete, Hollister said. Payments are based on an objective framework using information about the affected property, including square footage, acreage and available insurance, to calculate an offer.

Community members who accept the offer and receive payment are eligible for an additional $50,000 if they choose to rebuild their destroyed home and submit documentation. The deadline to apply for this additional payment is one year after receiving the initial DP4CR payment, Hollister said.

The DP4CR process can be completed on a home computer or mobile device at www.DP4CR.com up until the Oct. 26 deadline. To ask questions or request assistance after the program closes, email [email protected]. While an attorney is not needed to submit a claim, those who have already hired a lawyer should consult with the attorney about eligibility for this program.
