Plumas Charter School reports that its Quincy Learning Center hosted the third Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day on Oct. 10, transforming an ordinary Thursday morning into a festive community celebration. Organizer and school nurse Danielle Plocki said that students eagerly look forward to this event, which happens twice a year, once in the fall and one in the spring. “The event brings a sense of adventure and camaraderie to the school commute,” she said.
Along the route, Plocki’s health students — some sporting playful costumes — lined the course to guide participants safely. As participants arrived at school, they were welcomed with hot chocolate, prizes and plenty of cheer from parents and PCS staff.
The event invited students to get to school by walking, biking or riding a scooter or skateboard, with a drop-off option at Grocery Outlet for those living farther away. From there, students could complete their journey on foot or wheels. The morning also featured a bicycle obstacle course, courtesy of Yuba Expeditions, in the school parking lot.

Plocki said the event’s success was made possible through support from Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, Yuba Expeditions and Grocery Outlet, who also donated healthy snacks to participants. “The generosity from these organizations showcases the community’s dedication to encouraging healthy habits, outdoor activity and safe transportation,” she said.
As part of the broader Safe Routes to School initiative, PCS said it continues to foster an environment where walking and biking to school are celebrated, safe and fun for all.
