Friends of the Library book sale begins Oct. 24

“Clear some more space on your bookshelves!” That’s the advice of the Quincy Friends of the Plumas County Library, as the group announces its next big book sale. The sale is slated for the following dates:

  • Thursday, Oct. 24, 2 to 6 p.m., Friends members only
  • Friday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., open to all
  • Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., open to all

According to Friends officer Stephanie Leaf, the sale will feature a large selection of gently used books, CDs and other media. Leaf also points out that this will be the Friends’ last sale of the year and advises the community not to miss this opportunity to stock up on books for holiday gift giving or for personal fireside enjoyment during long winter evenings.

The sale will be held as usual in the meeting room of the Plumas County Library in Quincy and organizers reports that there are many new and interesting books for shoppers to choose from. For browsing ease, nonfiction books are organized by category and hardback and paperback fiction are in alphabetical order by author.

As always, children’s books are free. Caregivers and children are invited to select 20 free books per family. Weather permitting, all children’s books will be displayed outside on the library porch.

The first day of the sale is reserved for members only; membership can be purchased or renewed at the sale. An annual membership costs $10 and entitles the holder to premier browsing rights at sales. Lifetime membership costs $100. Both annual and lifetime memberships are sold per person, not per family.

Leaf points out that memberships can also be purchased as gifts for others. “The holidays are just around the corner and a Friends membership might be the perfect gift for anyone in your life who loves to read and cares about their community,” she said.

According to Friends president Bev McColm, the group welcomes donations of gently used books, but donations cannot be accepted during the sale itself. Those with books or media to donate after the sale can call McColm at 530-283-3997.

Friends also asks that books donated at any time comply with the book donation guidelines posted at the library. “As a general rule, if a book is in a condition where you wouldn’t buy it yourself, chances are no one else would either,” said Leaf. “Donating unsaleable books just puts a huge burden on the Friends’ hard-working volunteers.”

Donation guidelines are available via email at [email protected] and more information is also available on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/quincyfriendslibrary/.
