Star Party offers view of night sky

UPDATE: The star party has been postponed to Nov. 9 due to weather predicted for Nov. 2.

Experience the wonder of the cosmos with the Astronomical Society of Nevada at a star party Nov. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event, held at the Sierra Valley Preserve Nature Center, will include a talk about the mysteries of the cosmos and our place in it. Astronomers will answer questions about astronomy, telescopes, and anything universe-related, reports the Feather River Land Trust. When all eyes have adjusted, the evening will turn to the night sky for telescope viewing.

This is a family friendly event. All ages are welcome. Parents must attend with children under 16. Those attending without an adult under 18 should email Jenna Holland.

Feather River Land Trust suggests bringing warm layers and sturdy shoes.

“It’s a great way to get a unique view of the sky, learn about the cosmos and check out types of equipment you might want for your own star viewing,” said Holland.

Registration is available online.
