Beckwourth Peak considers tax exemptions

The Beckwourth Peak Fire Prevention District has announced that property owners within the district who are low income or own agricultural property contiguous to the district can be considered for exemptions from the district special fire tax, approved by voters during the November 2023 general election.

Many property owners were caught unaware of this new parcel tax requirement during this first tax year, district officials said. They may also be unaware of the opportunity to file for one of the two exemptions. Beckwourth Peak, working with the Plumas County tax collector, has extended the application for exemptions for this year to January 17, 2025.

Property owners with questions regarding the exemption process can meet with district officials at the Beckwourth Fire Station Wednesday Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. They can also contact BPFPD at 530-832-1008.

The new parcel tax provides necessary funding to deliver and sustain professional fire, rescue, and emergency services throughout eastern Plumas County. The exemption application forms can be found on the District’s website. For questions and more information contact Chief Jack Rosevear at 530-832-1008.
