With the quickly approaching holiday season, the Eastern Plumas Community Assistance Network, Portola’s local food bank, is preparing to distribute holiday food baskets to individuals and families. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 13.
To sign up by Dec. 13, residents should fill out the Holiday Helping Hands form sent out by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Association. The EPCAN Food Bank also has forms available during regular hours. EPCAN volunteers can accept the forms during the food bank’s opening hours or drop it in the mail slot.
Food basket distribution will be one day only, Dec. 19, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the food bank, at 120 Nevada St. in Portola.
The Salvation Army and Leonard’s Market have donated hams. Individual donors, nonprofits and businesses in the local communities provided donations to buy chickens, with all the trimmings.
EPCAN operates the local food bank year-round. Food bank hours are Monday and Wednesday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Thursday afternoons, noon to 2 p.m.
The EPCAN Board is thankful for its donors, volunteers and supporters. To make a cash donation, send contributions to 120 Nevada St., Portola, Calif. 96122. To become a volunteer, call (530) 836-1485.
