Firefighters plan this week to treat approximately 180 acres in Lakes Basin, on the Beckwourth Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest. Officials expect pile burning to continue through Dec. 13.
The piles are near Gold Lake Highway and in the western wildland-urban interface in Graeagle. Authorities expect forecasted winds to lift and push the smoke away from Graeagle.
Residents in Graeagle, Clio, Blairsden and Mohawk can expect visible smoke. PNF officials don’t expect significant long-term impacts to nearby communities, though smoke will be visible from California State Highways 70 and 89, Mohawk-Chapman Road and Gold Lake Highway, including Concow, Yankee Hill.
