Avian flu outbreak affects Feather River Co-op

During the past several weeks, some egg and dairy products have not been in-stock at Feather River Food Co-op. Recently, the co-op’s distributors confirmed the shortage is due to a severe avian flu outbreak across the western United States, leaving eggs in a critical supply shortage.

To mitigate the shortage, the co-op has limited egg purchases to two dozen per customer, effective Dec. 19. The purchase limit for 18-count egg cartons is one carton per customer.

In addition, the outbreak has crossed to cattle, and many dairy products are also out-of-stock. Raw milk supplies have been impacted as a result, with multiple instances of raw milk testing positive for avian flu. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Dec. 18.
