Trail stewardship announces season events

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has announced its spring and summer line-up. The season begins mid-May with the Quincy Mountain Epic and finishes out with Grinduro! in September. In addition to trail work, riding and festivals, these events help fund the work of SBTS.

The Quincy Mountain Epic runs May 15 – 18. Campers may check in May 15, from 1 p.m., at the Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds via Gate 3 off Lee Road in Quincy. In addition to project work on Mount Hough, organizers have planned outdoor adventures and Epic games for volunteers in the evening. Visit the SBTS site for more information or to register.

Registration is open now for the Lost and Found Gravel Grinder. The June 14 race is part of the Lost and Found Gravel Festival that runs June 12 – 15. The race is a combination of paved, dirt and gravel roads with three course lengths: 40, 64 and 96 miles through some of the best the Lost Sierra has to offer.

Visit the festival website for more information or to register.

The Downieville Classic Festival and All Mountain World Championships are Aug. 7 – 10. The Downieville Classic Cross Country race is one of the last remaining point-to-point bicycle races in the U.S. The 26.5-mile course follows a rugged Gold Rush-era route from Sierra City (elevation 4,100′), to the crest of the Sierra Nevada (elevation 7,100′), then down 5,200 vertical feet into Downieville.

Dropping 5,000 vertical feet in 15 miles from Packer Saddle to Downieville, the Downieville Downhill is the longest and most demanding downhill mountain bike race in the country. This race course follows the Sunrise, Butcher Ranch, Third Divide and First Divide Trails. To qualify for the downhill, riders must complete the cross-country race.

For more information, visit the Downieville Classic website.

The Downieville Epic is July 11 – 13, work at Packer Saddle in the mountains above Downieville for system maintenance work. Although the official start is July 12, volunteers can stake out their spots at Packsaddle Campground from 2 p.m. July 11.

Come for the day, stay for the weekend. As usual, there is a mix of activities throughout the weekend. For more information or to register, visit the SBTS website.
