Plumas Community Radio launches podcasts

Programming focuses on county current events and local musical performances

All six of KQNY’s news and community affairs programs are now available as podcasts and are accessible through many podcast platforms.

Emmanuel Lemnah, a local impresario and musician who hosts “Plumas Fun!,” led the work to make KQNY’s podcast a reality. Because of Lemnah’s work as a volunteer and friend of KQNY, his effort brings focus to the county’s current events and his show emphasizes local musical performances.

Podcasts include two other news shows: “KQNY Radio News” and “FRC Golden Eagle Update.” Three community affairs shows are also part of the podcast feed: “Community Matters,” “Vital Voices” and “The Fire Frequency.”

Dave Loschiavo and Tommy Miles host “KQNY Radio News” in collaboration with The Plumas Sun. It features stories based on The Plumas Sun’s reporting, together with KQNY’s original journalism.

“Feather River College Golden Eagle Update” shares college-related news about events and activities at the college. Designed to engage listeners and foster public involvement, FRC faculty and staff are regular contributors, including Nick Maffei, FRC’s director of marketing, communications, and outreach.

“Community Matters” has served as KQNY’s flagship community affairs show for many years. It explores important local topics, including interviews with local decision-makers and candidates for public office.

Launched last summer, “The Fire Frequency” shares news about local efforts to prevent the devastating effects of wildfires through frequent, low-intensity fire treatments. KQNY produces the show in cooperation with Terra Fuego Resource Foundation, a local nonprofit.

Developed in collaboration with Plumas District Hospital, “Vital Voices” is KQNY’s newest community affairs show. Show content includes a series of conversations with in the local healthcare community leaders. It’s intended to help promote a healthy future for Plumas County.

Owned and operated by Plumas Community Radio, KQNY is a nonprofit corporation broadcasting as a noncommercial educational FM station under license of the Federal Communications Commission. The station has opportunities for local residents to work as DJs, show hosts, producers and volunteers. For more information and a complete program schedule, contact KQNY through its website.
