The Quincy Grove is a community makerspace that is set to welcome artists, creators and innovators from all walks of life with its grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 1. The event will take place at the makerspace located at 567 Lawrence St. #1. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with an open conversation about membership and the vision for the future, followed live music from local musician Alex Lemnah starting at 8 p.m.
The Grove is designed to provide a versatile, collaborative environment that supports a variety of creative pursuits. The initial focus will include a ceramics studio and multi-media space, providing the space, tools, and equipment for members to explore pottery, sculpture, painting and more — all on their own time. The Grove is presented and owned by Suzanne de Martimprey and Shane Heiman, both locals.
Over the coming year, organizers plan to offer classes at the space. Classes will initially be available to members only, but will eventually open to community members as well. Experienced artists interested in teaching are encouraged to contact the organization. Organizers also aim to add an additional creative studio later this year.
“Whether you’re an experienced artist, a hobbyist or someone looking to try something new, this makerspace is the perfect environment to develop your skills, meet like-minded people and contribute to a growing creative community here in Quincy,” organizers said.
The Grove will initially offer 50 active creator membership slots at $50 per month. Memberships are for individuals who wish to regularly use the creative studios. Active members will have open access to all facilities, tools and equipment, and will have the opportunity to contribute to the direction of the space. Those who want to support the project but don’t require studio access are invited to join as creative supporters, who will receive early access to information about community classes.
