Local resource conservation district seeks directors

The Feather River Resource Conservation District reports it is seeking members for its board of directors. Feather River RCD is a nonregulatory special district that provides technical assistance and funding to landowners to manage natural resources on their properties as well as up-to-date technical information to inform management actions.

The district is governed by a five-person board of directors representing each of the five supervisorial districts in Plumas County. Directors serve four-year terms and are expected to attend one regular monthly meeting, as well as any special or emergency meetings that may be necessary.

Director positions are voluntary but are critical to district operations, said District Manager Michael Hall. Directors must be landowners within district boundaries or be designated representatives of landowners. There are two pending vacancies, as follows:

  • Representing Plumas County Supervisorial District 3, encompassing the northern portion of the county around Lake Almanor.
  • Representing Plumas County Supervisorial District 4, encompassing a western and central portion of the county including Meadow Valley and West Quincy.

However, Hall said interested applicants from all areas are encouraged to apply. Feather River RCD encourages those with an interest in forestry, watersheds, agriculture production, soil science, watershed health or related fields to apply. “Diverse backgrounds and experiences provide support to better serve the communities of Plumas County,” said Hall.

Previously called the Indian-American Valleys Resource Conservation District, the Feather River RCD was instated in 1954. In 1993, the district boundaries were expanded to better match the boundaries of Plumas County. It was during this boundary expansion that the district’s name was changed to Feather River RCD. More information on the district is available at https://frrcd.org/.

Information on how to apply as a board member is available from Hall at [email protected] or from the district at 530-927-5299.
