Sierra Institute hosts post-fire recovery workshop

The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment announces it will host a virtual workshop April 24 and 25 as part of the Sierra to California All-Lands Enhancement project. Organizers say this two-day free online event will focus on the critical theme of post-fire recovery, offering actionable solutions for rebuilding resilient landscapes and communities after wildfire events.

The workshop, held over three hours each day from 9 a.m. to noon, is open to all stakeholders involved in landscape restoration, including land managers, forest restoration professionals, community members, local officials and anyone interested in wildfire recovery from Plumas County and beyond. It offers a unique opportunity to share experiences and collaborate with land managers, state representatives, the Forest Service and other key partners. The goal is to foster collaboration and provide strategies for post-fire landscape and community resilience, say organizers.

Day 1 will focus on post-fire landscape recovery. Experts will present science-based strategies for restoring landscapes impacted by wildfires and promoting ecological health.

Day 2 will focus on post-fire community recovery. This session will focus on rebuilding community resilience, covering best practices and lessons learned from communities previously impacted by fire.

Registration and more information is available by contacting Zach Browning at [email protected].

About the Sierra to California All Lands Enhancement Project

The Sierra Institute’s Sierra to California All-Lands Enhancement project is the mechanism for collaboration between collaborative groups working on landscape-scale forest restoration and community improvement across California. The SCALE project aims to strengthen collective capacity in addressing landscape challenges while supporting ecological and community well-being.

Through the SCALE project, Sierra Institute facilitates a peer-learning network among forest collaboratives by convening biannual meetings designed to share key lessons learned by each of the collaboratives, building the capacity of collaboratives by promoting awareness of key state and federal policies, funding and authorities, and collectively identifying strategies to achieve landscape-scale, cross-boundary restoration of healthy, resilient forests.
