Plumas County Bar Association offers scholarship

The Plumas County Bar Association announces its 2025 Alice M. King scholarship competition. The association has given scholarships to local high school seniors since 2001 based on a competition involving an essay contest as well as the student’s academic achievements and activities. All Plumas County high school seniors are encouraged to submit an essay and compete for a $1,000 scholarship.

The 2025 essay topic is “Has living in the smartphone era helped or hindered you as you’ve grown to adulthood?”

Essays must be the student’s original work, with appropriate citations for any borrowed words or thoughts. The deadline for submissions is April 15. Winners will be announced at an award ceremony at the winners’ school at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. There may be one or multiple winners.

Any winner must show college enrollment to receive funds. The scholarship will be paid out in two halves, for the first two terms of college, and only after proof of full-time college enrollment is received at each term. To apply, students must email their application package to [email protected] with the subject line “scholarship application” or turn in a hard copy of the application package to the Plumas County District Attorney’s Office in Suite No. 404 in the courthouse at 510 Main St.

The application package must include the following:

  • Current high school transcript
  • Essay, 500 words maximum
  • Cover page including the following information: student’s full name, school the student will graduate from, mailing address, email address and telephone number

The essay itself should not include identifying information.
