Plumas National Forest reports that last week firefighters on the Beckwourth Ranger District successfully treated approximately 122 acres of piles in the Mohawk Vista project area near Blairsden.
Firefighters on the Mount Hough Ranger District successfully treated approximately 22 acres of piles located near the Mount Hough Ranger District office and California State Highway 70. The area included numerous piles, including several from fuel reduction work done in late summer and fall 2024. PNF says the newer piles were not ignited during this treatment. Personnel say operations went well and smoke was less visible due to the storm in the area.

In addition, firefighters reported successful treatments of 325 acres of piles in Butterfly Valley and one acre at the Cascade Trailhead near Keddie. The Plumas County Fire Safe Council helped fund the operation in Butterfly Valley, with work being completed by firefighters from the Plumas National Forest and Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc.
PNF personnel say patrol and monitoring of areas where pile burning occurred will continue in the coming days.
