The Friends of Chester Library group announces that it recently presented a $4,000 donation to Chester Elementary School for books to support student reading. FOCL reports that the school plans to target this donation toward adding current nonfiction to its library and book purchases specific to each classroom’s curriculum needs.
During the presentation, Diana Long, treasurer of FOCL, presented a check to Scott Cory, principal of Chester Elementary. Sue Haltom, FOCL director, spoke to students and teachers about FOCL’s community goals of encouraging literacy and love of books, and the group’s support of the Chester branch of the Plumas County Library.

Additional FOCL members also attended: Vicki Francis, Debbie Lundquist and Suzanne McDonald, who served as photographer. Second-grade teacher Aletha O’Kelley acted as liaison between the school and the nonprofit group.
Organizers reported that the assembly of students and teachers gave a round of applause thanking the Friends for their thoughtful donation.
