Eldon Gene Blum

Jan. 28, 1939 – March 9, 2025

Eldon Gene Blum, 86, passed peacefully March 9, 2025, in his Quincy home with his family by his side. He was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Calumet, Oklahoma, and grew up in Quincy with his sister Patricia, mother Florence and grandmother Bertha.

Eldon attended Quincy High School and graduated in the class of 1958. He was a handsome, tall man driving around town in his ’49 Mercury, where he won the heart of Elizabeth Downey. The two later got married in November 1960. Eldon’s dream from a young age was to build and own a remote cabin in the woods. He completed that dream in the summer of 1968 by building on weekends with his family and best friend, Leland Cotter. It was a dream that created lasting decades of memories touching the lives of all those who visited.

Eldon worked for Al Olds Logging after high school and later for the Sloat Cedar Mill until it closed in 1991. He transitioned to heavy equipment operator for other logging outfits in the area until he retired in 1995. On warm summer days, you could catch Eldon riding his Harley Davidson tour bike around giving rides to grandkids, or cruising with his wife for a delicious Stoney’s burger and fries. He lived a beautiful life filled with personal achievements and a long legacy of family to carry on his memory.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of the family and friends who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, of 64 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Susan Barron (Brian Hughes) and Donna Lauppe (Jeff Lauppe); a long heritage of six grandkids (Jacob, Renae, Jenifer, Sam, Sean, and Alex); and seven great-grandkids.

If you had the pleasure of knowing Eldon, please join us for a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Quincy Elks Lodge. Food will be provided as well as live music by Mitch Polzak & the Royal Deuces.

Eldon was passionate about amateur radio, and we ask for any donations on his behalf in lieu of flowers be made to our local Plumas Amateur Radio Committee. A donation box will be provided at the service or mail checks payable to PARC, 267 Bell Lane, Quincy, CA 95971.
