Collaborative team installs trauma kits in local schools

In response to recent full-scale active shooter exercise at local high schools, a collaborative effort is underway to install trauma kits in schools across the county, reports the Plumas County Public Health Agency. On March 18, the first of the kits were installed at C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School and Portola Junior-Senior High School, with kits set for installation at schools in the Quincy, Indian Valley and Chester areas by the end of May.

This project is led by public health. Local hospitals — Eastern Plumas Health Care, Plumas District Hospital and Seneca Healthcare District — purchase the kits. Local schools including Plumas Unified School District and local emergency medical services — EPHC
Ambulance, Careflight/Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority, and Peninsula Fire District — assist with installation and training of school staff.

The purpose of the project is to enhance emergency preparedness and improve life-saving capabilities in crisis situations, says public health. The trauma kits will be strategically placed in schools and include essential medical supplies to provide immediate care for severe injuries until first responders arrive.
