On March 24, the Plumas National Forest determined that this spring’s ignitions are complete for the Mount Hough Ranger District’s prescribed burning project area near Silver Lake. Over the previous seven days, firefighters treated a total of approximately 201 acres.
PNF reports that firefighters made excellent progress on the project, despite challenging lighting conditions. Many of the piles were older and more difficult to light, but once ignited they successfully burned down.

Patrols and monitoring over the weekend found the piles holding and burning down successfully, said PNF. Smoke was more visible in the area recently due to clear conditions, but smoke dispersal was good and smoke became less visible later in the afternoon. Patrols and monitoring will continue in the area over the next several days.
Plumas County Fire Safe Council helped fund this pile burning operation through a grant from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, with work being conducted by firefighters from the Plumas National Forest and Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc.
