The sunny, 70-degree valley weather wasn’t the only bright spot this past weekend, reports the Quincy Trojan varsity softball team: players went 4-1 in the March 20 – 22 tournament hosted by the Biggs Wolverines.
Head coach Ron James said he is looking forward to a great 2025 season with strong leadership from the seven seniors on his roster, along with promising athleticism from four incoming freshmen and three upcoming sophomores. “Going 4-1 in the tournament was a total success,” said James. “Jemma Trueblood pitching a perfect game really topped off the weekend.”
Assistant coaches Jason Newton and Nate Olhiser echoed James’ sentiments, with Newton adding, “We are showing success at the plate throughout our lineup.”
Quincy 13-Core Butte 2
Quincy freshmen Trueblood and Molly Newton led the Trojans with two runs batted in apiece in their victory over the Core Butte Lynx. Addison Gay was 3-3 at the plate with notable hits coming from Trueblood and Laney Meisenheimer, each hitting doubles, and Brooke Blesse crushing a triple.
Quincy 4-Princeton 9
Despite outhitting Princeton three to two, the Trojans fell to the Eagles. Dri Goulet led the Trojans with two of their three hits. Senior Kaitlynn Miller led things off in the circle, giving up two hits and nine runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking four. Miller led the Trojans with one run batted in.
Quincy 5-Etna 0
The Trojans started the game off strong when senior Hana Hostetter sent a two-run shot over the right field fence in the top of the first inning, setting the energetic tone in this victory. Hostetter and Molly Newton each collected one hit for the Trojans. The Quincy girls showed patience at the plate, accumulating six walks. Addison Gay and Jenna Peay led the team with two free passes each.
Freshmen pitcher Trueblood allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Quincy 11-Trinity 0
In another dominant performance, Trueblood pitched a perfect game. Senior catcher Morganne Olhiser supported her pitcher with a total of 12 plays. The Trojans showed strength throughout their lineup with seven players gathering one or more hits. Molly Newton led the team with two runs batted in. Jenna Peay led the team with two of Quincy’s six stolen bases.
Quincy 8-Fall River 6
The Trojans capitalized on the Bulldog errors in this victory. An outstanding triple from Hostetter in the bottom of the second gave the Trojans the lead 7-6. Meisenheimer led Quincy with two RBIs. Jenna Peay led the team with two hits in three at-bats from the lead-off position. Morganne Olhiser stole two bases.
