Local students participate in amplifying rural voices

Quincy Junior-Senior High School reports that five students attended a conference last month at California State University, Chico titled Amplifying Rural Student Voices in Regional Communities.

John Ferreboeuf-Gilbert, Bryce Kiedrowski, Miley Nielsen, Emnet Dupras and Lynea Litchfield joined school counselor Jill Dupras for the March 7 event. It was a great opportunity for these students to join with other students from rural communities across Northern California, report organizers.

Quincy High points out that Chico State has an ambassador program for rural students that focuses on bringing more rural students to campus and provides support once they enroll. These college students planned the entire day of the conference.

Quincy High students were able to participate in activities such as reframing the rural narrative and visually representing the strengths of their county. They also heard the university president speak and attended breakout sessions about the college experience. The day ended with lunch in the cafeteria and a walking tour of the campus. “It was a wonderful experience!” said Jill Dupras.
