All invited to Action and Education Fair for Earth Day

Performers and groups sought for stations, tables, activities

Plumas Earth Day is a time to gather together as a community and celebrate the planet, says the Plumas Earth Days Committee. The committee reports that this year’s main event locally is an Action and Education Fair on Earth Day, April 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Dame Shirley Plaza in Quincy.

The program features live music by several local musicians, dancing, and drumming with audience involvement, say organizers. A spoken word and poetry open mic, with Jennifer Ready serving as mistress of ceremonies, is also on tap. The event is free and everyone is invited.

The first Earth Day was held in 1970 and the event is now celebrated in 192 countries around the world. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the first Earth Day. The 2025 national theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” “To us here locally that means a focus on our power to make change for the health of the planet and ourselves,” say organizers.

“Really, every day is Earth Day,” said Leslie Mink, Plumas Earth Day planner. “April 22 in the spring is a great day to gather together, express gratitude and awe for Mother Earth, and inspire ourselves for better living in harmony with all her creatures.”

The Plumas Earth Days Committee is seeking volunteers to participate in the event by providing earth-centered activities, stations and information/action tables. Organizations and individuals who are interested are invited to complete this form by April 16 for more information.

Plumas Earth Days Committee is a group of community-minded, Earth-loving individuals that has spontaneously gathered each spring, starting in 2008. More information about this Plumas Earth Day event is available from Jennifer Ready at [email protected].
