Public safety fair open to all middle, high schoolers

Plumas Charter School invites all Plumas County students in grades seven to 12 to an exciting and educational opportunity to explore careers in public safety. The Public Safety Career Fair, set for Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will take place at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds and is designed to introduce students to the many career paths in emergency services, law enforcement and more. Entry is free.

Organizers promise that students attending the fair will have the chance to interact with industry leaders, get hands-on experience with specialized equipment and explore the essential tools and vehicles used in careers such as firefighting, law enforcement, highway patrol, emergency services, medical evacuation, wildlife conservation and enforcement, animal control, dispatch and forest management. Representatives from these fields will be available to discuss training programs, certifications and job opportunities that can set students on a path toward a rewarding career in public safety, say organizers.

With over 34,526 public safety jobs available in 2023 and an expected 11% growth through 2028, there is growing demand for skilled professionals in these fields, say organizers, and this event offers students a firsthand look. Plus, with an average entry-level wage of $32.16 per hour, careers in public safety provide competitive earnings along with the opportunity to serve and protect communities.

“This is an invaluable experience for students who are curious about careers in public safety,” said event organizer Frank Carey. “Whether they’re interested in fighting wildfires, providing emergency medical care or working in law enforcement, they’ll have the chance to learn directly from professionals in the field.”
