The Plumas County Library announces that in honor of National Library Week this week it will be hosting an open house at each branch on Thursday, April 10. Each branch will also be celebrating the Week of the Young Child, which is also this week, with free gift bags for kids ages 0 to 5 provided by Plumas STARS and Plumas Rural Services. Bags include children’s books, puzzles, activities, information for parents and more.

Here’s what’s happening at local branches:
Quincy library, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can join the Quincy staff in the meeting room for refreshments and displays of unique items from the Tool Lending Library and the newly launched Toy Library. Participants can learn how to use e-readers, telescopes and portable solar charging panels. Little ones can try out new children’s puzzles, toys and games. As a special bonus, staff members will provide homemade goodies made using recipes from some of their favorite cozy mystery books. “Sample a treat, then borrow the book and bake it at home,” say organizers.
Chester library, 4 to 7 p.m. Guests can enjoy light refreshments and conversation with the Chester library staff and Chester Friends of the Library. Participants can try out a new item from the Tool Lending Library, see the newly added light-up sensory play table in the children’s area, chat about favorite books and enjoy live music provided by local Renaissance group Wit & Mirth.
Portola Library, 5 to 7 p.m. Guests can stop by for refreshments and visit with the Portola library and literacy staff and members of the Portola Friends of the Library. Participants can find out about free library and literacy programs and classes, check out new learning toys and games in the children’s room and try out items from the Tool Lending Library.
Bookmobile, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. “If you haven’t had a chance to see the tiny-but-mighty Plumas County Library Bookmobile, now is the perfect time,” say organizers. Guests can stop in to enjoy a cookie or two and take a peek at the well-stocked shelves. Special items from the Tool Lending Library like e-readers, blood pressure kits and iFix It Kits, along with toys from the new Toy Library, are also available at the Bookmobile.
