Plumas-Sierra County Fair exhibit guide now available

The 2025 Plumas-Sierra County Fair exhibit guide has been released, reports fair manager John Steffanic, marking the beginning of the excitement for this year’s fair. The theme this year is “It’s Your Fair … Be There and Share!” “Many of us have so many things worth sharing,” says Steffanic. “Why not make this year the year you share it with the world?”

Steffanic encourages everyone to consider entering something in the 2025 fair, set for July 24 through 27. “This year’s exhibit guide is filled with divisions and classes that allow everyone who lives in the area to share what they have made, grown or raised,” he said.

To enter something in the fair, participants can follow these steps:

  • Browse the exhibit guide
  • Decide what they might like to enter
  • Fill out the applicable entry forms
  • Turn them in to the fair office by the deadline: most of the forms are due July 11, but many of the floriculture entries are due the week before the fair
  • Bring the entries to the fair on the dates shown in the guide

Steffanic points out there are many categories beyond the classics people associate with a county fair: jelly, baked goods, zucchini, flowers and needlepoint. “There is a division for giftwrapping,” said Steffanic. “Do you write poetry? Enter your poems. Grow a box garden. The fair actually provides the box! You can enter soap or candles you have made. You can decorate a cake, pie or confection, even if you didn’t bake it; the judging is on the decoration. Enter jerky, or salsa. Crochet a rug, sew a Christmas tree skirt. There are categories for all these.”

Steffanic invites those with houseplants — from African violets to cactuses to Boston ferns — to share them with everyone by entering them in the Floriculture Building. For those who love plants but lack a green thumb, there are several divisions for silk or dried flower arranging. To enter something from their garden, participants only have to turn in an entry form the Friday before the fair. “Perhaps it is some cut flowers, or some fresh carrots or onions,” suggests Steffanic. “Don’t forget about the oddities: largest vegetable, oddest shaped vegetable or the heaviest tomato. These are all things the public needs to see!”

Printed exhibit guides are available at all Plumas Bank branches and public library branches. Copies can also be picked up at the fair office at 204 Fairground Road in Quincy. A downloadable version is available on the fair website: http://www.plumas-sierracountyfair.net, where it is broken down by sections. Livestock entries are due June 27 and most other entries are due July 11.
