Gold Digger’s celebrates rebuilding in Greenville

The Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce invites residents and visitors to the 63rd annual Gold Digger’s celebration in Greenville Saturday, July 19. This year’s theme, “Honoring Builders, Paving Our Future,” pays tribute to the contractors, builders, architects and tradespeople — as well as volunteers — dedicated to recovery and rebuilding following the devastating Dixie Fire of 2021.

Established in 1962, the event — previously called Gold Diggers Day and Gold Digger Days — has been a cherished tradition in Greenville, celebrating the town’s rich history and vibrant community spirit, say organizers. The event has consistently brought together residents and visitors for over six decades, offering a blend of entertainment, local culture and communal activities.

In 2024, the 62nd Gold Digger’s featured a lively parade, family-friendly activities and a street dance. Organizers say this year’s event promises a day filled with joy, remembrance and community spirit, along with a unique opportunity to engage with Greenville’s heritage and witness firsthand the remarkable progress made in the town’s rebuilding journey.

Festivities for Gold Digger’s 2025 are scheduled as follows:

  • 8 a.m.: The day begins with a pancake breakfast hosted by American Legion Post 568, offering an opportunity to support local veterans in their newly constructed building.
  • 10 a.m.: The Gold Digger’s parade and street fair commence on Main Street. Attendees can enjoy a variety of kids’ activities, local vendors and food options.
  • 8 p.m.: Festivities culminate with a street dance featuring the band Side FX, inviting everyone to dance under the stars in downtown Greenville. Vortex Fire Dancers will perform in between sets.

Anyone interested in participating in the street fair as a vendor can visit the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce website to secure a spot.

The Dixie Fire had a profound impact on the community, destroying much of the town and leaving a lasting mark on its residents, said the chamber. Organizers promise that this year’s Gold Digger’s serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of those committed to restoring Greenville’s historic charm and vitality.

“All companies, builders, contractors, architects and tradespeople who have contributed to the rebuild are warmly invited to participate in the parade — we want to recognize your efforts and thank you publicly for the role you’ve played in bringing Greenville back to life,” said the chamber. “Whether you’re local or from out of town, your work has made a lasting impact, and we’d love to celebrate it with the whole community.”

The Gold Digger’s Committee is working hard to ensure the 2025 celebration is one to remember, said the chamber. The committee welcomes additional volunteers to join the planning process. Whether participants have an hour to spare or want to be more involved, there’s a place for everyone.

Planning meetings are open to all and take place at the Dixie Fire Collaborative office, 127 Crescent St. in Greenville, at 6 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: April 24, May 8, May 22, June 5, June 19, July 3, July 10 and July 17. “Your help can make a big difference in making this event special for the whole community,” say organizers.
