Matt Meyerl, owner of Adventure Monkeys and the nonprofit WildBio Flourishing, announces that the groups’ final skate night of the season is being held as part of a new family-friendly two-day experience including bike riding, yoga and community service. Saturday, April 26, will feature a bike ride in the morning and a country music–themed skate party in the evening at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds. Then Sunday, April 27, participants are invited to yoga and other activities, followed by a group cleanup of the fairgrounds.
“We’re evolving,” said Meyerl. “This weekend marks a shift toward programming that aligns more deeply with our mission: to build meaningful community, connect with nature and give back to the places we love.”
Meyerl said one of the biggest ways people can serve is by supporting communities living in the wildland urban interface. “From my years fighting wildfires, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by homeowners — especially elders and folks with physical limitations — who struggle to manage the defensible space around their homes,” he said.
To help meet this need, Meyerl invites all skate night artists, performers and participants to return Sunday hands-on service work preparing the fairgrounds for the upcoming Children’s Fair in conjunction with Wildfire Preparedness Day, as well as the start of the 2025 event season. WildBio Flourishing is partnering with the Plumas County Fire Safe Council, which will provide its Firewise USA tool trailer, support and guidance for the project.
On Saturday, participants can “recreate, skate and elevate,” say organizers:
- 10 a.m. – noon: guided bike ride leaving from the fairgrounds
- noon – 1 p.m.: lunch and chill
- 1 – 5 p.m.: setup volunteers needed
- 6 – 8 p.m.: family skate starts
- 8:30 – 11 p.m.: 16-plus skate starts with live music
On Sunday, participants are invited to the WildBio Service Day:
- 9 a.m.: activities include yoga with Heart Root Yoga, breathwork, light breakfast, bike riding
- 10:30 a.m.: “Dance Yourself Clean” community service kickoff includes fire prevention and cleanup at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds
- 2 p.m.: group photo, pizza party
- 3 p.m.: wrap up and thank-yous
