Land trust installs two new interpretive signs

The Feather River Land Trust announces that two new interpretive signs have been installed for visitors to North Fork Feather River conserved lands. After two years of behind-the-scenes work with illustrators and interpretive experts, the signs are now ready for visitors at Mountain Meadows Gateway Preserve and Mountain Meadows Reservoir, both near Westwood.

Mountain Meadows Gateway Preserve

The 9-acre Mountain Meadows Gateway Preserve connects the public to the larger Mountain Meadows Reservoir recreation area, protected by conservation easement with FRLT. The new sign depicts native species, activity information and how to get involved with FRLT. The signage is a part of FRLT’s effort to improve public access at the preserve. Recent projects include the completion of the parking area in spring 2023.

FRLT thanks its stewardship crew and local community members who dug holes, crafted with wood and mounted the sign. The reclaimed wood used for the frame is originally from the Sierra Valley Preserve.

Mountain Meadows Reservoir

A new sign has also been installed at Indian Ole Dam Recreation Area at Mountain Meadows Reservoir, protected by conservation easement in 2018 by FRLT and landowners Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The land trust reports this is part of a larger effort it is undertaking alongside PG&E and Mountain Meadows Conservancy to improve public access at the reservoir. Other recently completed projects include new restroom facilities near the dam.

The sign invites visitors to learn more about the conservation of the property, the ecology of the land and how it fits into the larger watershed, and some of the plant and animal species they may see.
