Earlier this month, sixth-grade students from Plumas Charter School’s Quincy and Chester learning centers joined forces with sixth graders from Plumas Christian School for a memorable day on the Feather River, reports Plumas Charter.
The rafting adventure, hosted by Feather River College’s Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program, began at the Greenville Wye on Highway 70 and continued downriver all the way to Twain. Along the way, students paddled through gentle rapids, navigated the twists and turns of the river and soaked up the beautiful spring scenery of the Feather River Canyon, say organizers.
FRC ORL students served as guides for the day, helping teach basic rafting skills, encouraging teamwork and sharing their knowledge of river safety and outdoor leadership. Their guidance made the trip both exciting and educational, giving students a firsthand look at how outdoor activities can build confidence, cooperation and respect for nature, said organizers.

The rafting trip was not just an adventure — it was also an opportunity for students from different schools to meet, work together and create new friendships. For many, it was their first time rafting, and organizers said the day was filled with excitement, laughter and a real sense of accomplishment by the time they reached Twain.
Plumas Charter School expressed gratitude to FRC and the ORL Program: “Opportunities like this allow students to connect with the natural beauty of our region, challenge themselves in new ways and build lasting memories that stretch far beyond the classroom.”
