Public comment period open for land trust accreditation

Feather River Land Trust announces that it is applying for accreditation renewal, and the associated public comment period is now open. The land trust invites the community to participate. Comments will be most useful if submitted by June 19.

Since 2015, FRLT has been a nationally accredited land trust. Land trust accreditation is a rigorous third-party evaluation that ensures FRLT, and other accredited land trusts, meet national quality standards for protecting important lands and waters forever, said FRLT.

To maintain accreditation, the organization is required to apply for renewal every five years. FRLT says this process shows its commitment to its important work and demonstrate its compliance, improvements and accomplishments toward best standards and practices.

During accreditation renewal, the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of the applicant’s policies and programs, said FRLT. The commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how FRLT complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operations of a land trust, and a full list of the standards is available online.

Those interested are invited to learn more about the accreditation program and submit a comment. Comments may also be faxed to 518-587-3183 or mailed to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, Attn: Public Comments, 36 Phila St., Suite 2, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
