The Feather River Land Trust says spring is the best time to visit Sierra Valley — the wetlands are full of water, the flowers are blooming, the migratory birds are nesting and the east entrance of the Sierra Valley Preserve is open again.
As part of facilities projects across the preserve, the east entrance recently received improvements. After many months of planning, design and construction, the new facilities are ready for the public to enjoy, said FRLT.

The east entrance is located on County Road A24 in Beckwourth. This area, also known as the Maddalena corrals, was the first parcel FRLT acquired at the Sierra Valley Preserve over 20 years ago. The new facilities include picnic tables, improved trails, parking, restroom facilities and an accessible wildlife overlook.
Educational signage for the east entrance is still being fabricated and will be installed later this summer, according to FRLT.
The Sierra Valley Preserve’s east and west entrances and their outdoor facilities are open every day from sunrise to sunset. FRLT encourages visitors to check conditions online before their visit.
